How do I remove a password from a PDF?
Open Unlock PDF on Tools-Bench, add the file and type its password. Click Unlock PDF to download a copy that opens without a password, with print and copy restrictions removed too. You need to know the password: the tool never guesses or cracks one. Everything runs in your browser, so nothing is uploaded.
About Unlock PDF
Typing a password every time you open your own bank statement or payslip gets old fast, and many tools, including the other PDF tools here, can’t work on an encrypted file. This one saves an unlocked copy of a PDF when you know its password, or lifts the print and copy restrictions from a PDF that opens without one. It runs in your browser, so the document and the password never leave your device. It’s meant for your own documents, and it never guesses passwords.

Frequently asked questions
Is my password sent anywhere?
No. The PDF is decrypted on your device by the open-source qpdf engine, compiled to WebAssembly. The engine and its memory, password included, are thrown away once the unlocked copy is written. Nothing is logged, stored or uploaded.
Can you remove a password I don’t know?
No. If the PDF asks for a password when you open it, you have to type that password: this tool doesn’t guess, crack or brute-force passwords. If you’ve lost it, ask whoever made the file for an unprotected copy.
My PDF opens fine but won’t let me print or copy. Can this help?
Yes. That PDF has permission restrictions without an open password, and they can be removed without a password. Only do this with documents that are yours or that you’re allowed to change.
Is the unlocked PDF otherwise the same?
Yes. Pages, text, images, links, bookmarks and form fields stay as they were; only the encryption and its restrictions are removed. One exception: a digital signature in the file will no longer validate, because the file has been rewritten.
